Our History

The first Church of Truth was founded in 1913 in Spokane, Washington by Dr. Albert C. Grier, a Universalist minister with an extraordinary vision and a philosophy that could enhance all humanity. It was one of 22 Churches of Truth founded by Dr. Grier in the early part of this century. Albert Grier's dream was to form a denomination dedicated to the healing of our physical, mental and spiritual bodies and life circumstances that would culminate in the realization of our oneness with all life, the fullest awakening of the Christ within.

Dr. Grier spread his teachings throughout the United States, writing books, lecturing, assisting newly founded churches, and working closely with other prominent leaders such as Ernest Holmes and leaders in both the eastern and western traditions. Previously a metaphysical fellowship, The Church of Truth in Pasadena was incorporated in 1924 with Dr. Grier as its first minister.

A prominent line of ministers within The Church of Truth in Pasadena followed Albert Grier's profound vision throughout the years, including his daughter, Gladys Grier, author of Foundation Stones of Truth. Since its establishment, each of these dynamic and loving ministers has brought his or her own unique understanding of Truth principles to the church. It is our hope that The Church of Truth will continue to fulfill Dr. Grier's vision of creating a platform so broad that none would be crowded off; one in which individuals can pursue the Universal Truth that will make them free.
